Living Room Reveal
I am thrilled to share a little tour of my living room today! I moved into my apartment just over a year ago. At the time, I was going through my divorce and was fully in survival mode. I was devastated, overwhelmed, and felt so lost. I wanted to be somewhere that felt bright, charming, and peaceful. A cozy haven where I could rest and recharge.
After a few months of searching, I finally found my new home. I loved that the neighborhood it’s in is very walkable and dog friendly - a top priority. As for the apartment itself - it’s not the most unique or bursting with historical character, but it has several qualities I loved, but most notably, the natural sunlight.
Natural sunlight has a profound impact on mood, as it influences the production of serotonin in the brain, which is known to contribute to feelings of happiness and well-being. Exposure to sunlight can boost energy levels, enhance focus, and reduce feelings of depression and anxiety. Additionally, sunlight helps regulate circadian rhythms, which are essential for maintaining a healthy sleep pattern. The warmth and brightness of a sunny day can instill a sense of optimism and motivation, something I knew I would need as I moved into a new phase of life. My apartment faces east, so I get bright and direct sunlight every morning. There are floor to ceiling windows in the living room, and with each sunny day that comes, the light streams in, making it bright and warm.
After being in my apartment for a year, I believe in the power of interior design more than ever. That your surroundings can have an affect on you, be it positive or negative, is undeniable. Interior design has a profound impact on our mood and overall well-being. The colors, textures, and arrangements of our spaces can influence our feelings and behaviors in subtle yet significant ways. Color psychology plays a crucial role in how we perceive our environment. I wanted a sense of tranquility, so I leaned into a cool-toned color palette. Cool colors such as blues and greens tend to promote calmness and relaxation, making them ideal for bedrooms, living rooms or reading nooks. I also wanted the space to feel inviting and cozy, so I focused on adding soft, textural layers. Skirted linen sofas and chairs, throw blankets. a wool rug, and linen curtains all contribute to evoking a sense of comfort.
Ultimately, personalization is key in interior design (especially in an apartment). Surrounding ourselves with items that hold personal significance—whether through art, souvenirs, or family heirlooms—creates a sense of belonging and comfort. Many of the pieces in my apartment were sourced at various vintage shops or warehouse sales, and I love that they each carry a unique history with them. The wallpaper panels are my favorite decor feature in the apartment. I initially purchased the wallpaper for a project in my old home, but I was never able to hang it. I held onto it, hoping that at some point I’d put it to use. Once I figured out the furniture layout in my apartment, I knew there would be a large open space above my sofa, and immediately envisioned hanging panels of wallpaper over it. I was finally able to bring that vision to life, and I love how it turned out. Not just for how they look, but for what they symbolize: independence, perseverance, and hope. When I see my wallpaper panels each morning, I’m reminded of my own journey and how far I’ve come.
Over the last year, my apartment has slowly started to feel like my new home. I know it will continue to evolve, but I feel like I accomplished what I set out to with this space, and love how it’s coming together. I’ve rounded up links for most everything below, but if there is something you’d like to know more about or help finding a similar item, please let me know in the comments! And stay tuned for my kitchen reveal, coming next week!
I'm thrilled to unveil a space that embodies comfort, warmth, and light—a true transformation from its previous state. This living room is designed to be a sanctuary that invites relaxation and rejuvenation.
The color palette is soft and inviting, featuring warm neutrals paired with gentle pops of color that bring vibrancy without overwhelming the senses. Plush furnishings, including a cozy sectional and oversized throw pillows, make it the perfect spot for curling up with a good book or gathering for movies with loved ones.
Natural light floods the room through large windows, accentuated by sheer curtains that allow for privacy while still embracing the outdoors. Thoughtfully placed mirrors enhance the brightness, creating a sense of openness that feels both airy and serene.
The decor features personal touches—artwork that speaks to our journey, decorative accents that tell a story, and plants that breathe life into the space. Each piece was chosen with intention, contributing to an overall feeling of harmony and balance.
As we move into this new chapter, we are embracing the light that fills this room, a reflection of our journey toward comfort and joy. I can't wait to spend countless moments here, surrounded by warmth and good company.
