10 Things I Want to Accomplish in My 30s

I recently turned 30, and I’m pretty darn excited about it. While it’s a bit surreal to think that my twenties have come and gone, it’s exhilarating to think that I’m standing on the brink of this new chapter full of adventures, new friendships, and life lessons (learned from plenty of mistakes, no doubt!).

Not that my twenties weren’t amazing. I’ve traveled, made new friends, and kickstarted my career. On a personal level, my twenties were all about finding my passion — trying on different hats until I found a fit that feels like moving in the right direction. And in honor of this new beginning, I thought I’d take some time to consider: what are 10 things I want to do in my thirties? This isn’t a bucket list, and it’s not comprehensive. It’s about things I actually want to do, not things I feel like I should do. This list takes for granted that I want to be a be the best version of myself that I can, and instead focuses on 10 things that are more about having fun and enjoying the moment. Because if there’s one thing that I learned in my twenties, it’s that it’s a decade that goes by way too fast.

Learn Another Language

This is a goal that’s been on my list for some time now, and I feel like I’m finally in a place to make it happen. Speaking a second language (or possibly even a third) is something I’ve become more passionate about accomplishing especially after visiting Italy over the last several years. I would love to learn Italian, and I would also love to learn to speak French.

Become better at photography

I have so much respect for professional photographers. This is not an easy skill, and yet there are countless extremely talented photographers out there creating incredible images. I would love to become better at photography so that I can document more moments, especially in light of my next goal…

Live in Europe for 2 Straight Months or Go to Europe at least once a year

This might be the most lofty and unattainable goal on this list, but I’m determined to make one or the other happen. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my twenties, it’s that I love traveling in Europe and I don’t feel like I’ve had enough yet, so as difficult as this might be to accomplish, I think it might end up being the most rewarding, too.

Prioritize my health and wellness

This is something I’ve really been striving toward recently - making healthy choices not just in terms of my career or finances but in regards to health. Working out has admittedly fallen to the bottom of my to do list over the last few years, so it’s something that I’m making a priority now. For the last few months, I’ve been doing at-home pilates workouts, but I’m starting to think about getting back into dance after all this time. I grew up in the dance world, and it’s something I miss terribly. I may as well enjoy what I’m doing and get some exercise right?

Carve out a career that’s all my own: Go into interior design full-time, work for myself, and have my own company

As much as I’ve loved my corporate job for the last 7 years, I’m so much more excited about what the future might offer, especially the chance to work for myself doing something I really love. I’m taking real steps toward this goal - so stay tuned to see if I can actually get there!

Let loose and have more fun

I was recently asked “What do you do for fun?”, and embarrassing as this is to admit, I had a hard time answering the question. As much dreaming as I do on here, life can be a lot sometimes and prioritizing doing something fun isn’t always top of mind. Balancing work, a side hustle, caring for a pet and a personal life can be difficult and I’m often solely focused on what seems like a never-ending to do list. So much of my twenties was focused on working hard and building toward something, so I’m committing to making sure I have more fun, laugh more, and do more exciting things in my 30s.

Save for a beach bungalow

I’m happiest by the sea. Something about being at the beach makes it so much easier to remember to slow down, be present in the moment and relax. I don’t know where the beach cottage of my dreams will actually be, but I know it will take some time to get there. Saving for it is something I’m starting to work toward now!

Be present and live in the moment

This is something I cannot say I’ve done well in my twenties. I think I spent a lot of the last decade being so focused on the future that I forgot that life actually happening right then and there. I don’t want to spend any more time missing the present, because it all goes by so fast.

Learn to travel alone

As someone who has been in a relationship for all of her twenties, I never really got to experience traveling on my own. It’s a personal goal of mine to go on a trip by myself!

Surround myself with a supportive community of friends that share my interests

It’s hard to make friends as an adult, let alone as a somewhat shy adult that works from home all week! I’m currently working on figuring out ways to make more friends, and one of the best ways I’ve found is to connect with people who share the same interests as I do, whether that be cooking, design, food, fashion, or trashy TV. I hope that as this blog continues to grow, I can cultivate a community of friends who like design and blogging as much as I do!
