Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 23 Show
If you’ve been a long-time reader around here, you know that before I fell in love with interior design, I thought of nothing other than fashion. It was my dream to be able to attend fashion shows in New York and Paris, and while that dream hasn’t come to fruition quite yet, I follow along religiously each season.
In recent years, Christian Dior’s shows have become a true favorite - a special treat that I look forward to season after season. Maria Grazia Chiuri has served as Creative Director since 2016, and I love the direction she has moved Dior to. Her designs are so feminine and delicate and intricate and yet, stand out to me the most each year. I love the underlying message here - haute couture doesn’t have to mean over the top, flashy, bright or even daring. Perhaps that the more subtle, quiet, soft moments are equally, if not more beautiful, is an idea that really resonates with me.
This season’s collection was inspired by Josephine Baker, an American singe rand performer turned civil rights activist, who came to Paris to perform in the twenties and eventually became a French citizen and Dior client. While there are several nods to the twenties throughout the collection in the form of shimmering, deco-like beaded shifts, not one look felt over the top. They all felt understated, chic, and quietly powerful. It’s truly one of my favorite Dior collections to date!
