My Current Go-To Makeup Routine: Less, but Better
I’ve been in my minimalist but make it fun makeup era lately—and I’m loving it.
There’s something about a routine that feels easy, wearable, and still leaves room for a little play. I’m not trying to look “done,” just a little brighter, a little more awake, and still like myself. Here's what I've been reaching for lately:
1. Skin First
I start with really good skin prep—moisturizer, SPF, and a hydrating mist if I’m feeling extra. I skip foundation most days, but if I want a little more polish, I’ll dab on a sheer skin tint or mix a drop of my concealer into moisturizer for a DIY tinted veil. The goal: even things out without covering too much.
2. Concealer Where It Counts
I’ll tap a creamy concealer under my eyes, around my nose, and on any spots that need a little love. Nothing too heavy—just enough to feel fresh.
3. Cream Everything
Cream blush is non-negotiable. I use it on cheeks, lips, and sometimes dab a little on my lids if I want a monochrome moment. (Extra points if it's a peachy or berry shade—depends on the mood.) Cream bronzer is a recent addition—just a light sweep to warm things up and fake a little sun.
4. Brows, Lightly
I’ve stopped trying to perfect them. I brush them up with a tinted brow gel and call it a day. A little messy is good—it adds personality.
5. A Quick Lash
I curl my lashes and use one coat of mascara. Just enough to open up the eyes without making them the whole story. If I want a little more fun, I’ll tightline with a brown pencil or smudge a bit into the lash line. Nothing sharp, nothing too precise.
6. Lips: The Fun Part
This is where I let myself play. Some days it’s just balm. Other days I’ll do a bright lip with no other real makeup because it feels cool and unexpected. Lip oils, creamy sticks, even a swipe of red rubbed in with a finger—no rules here.
That’s it. Soft, wearable, unfussy.
But still fun. Still personal. Still a little bit me.
Whether it’s for errands, dinner, or just working from home, this routine gives me a boost without feeling like a production. And if I want to throw on a bold lip or add a little shimmer to the lid—why not?
Makeup should be fun, not fussy. Less is more, but a little play never hurt anyone!
