Mudroom Reveal

I am so excited to share our Mudroom today! This space has gone through a such an incredible transformation. Now it’s one of my favorite spots in the house. Read and scroll for more!

The History

A little history on the mudroom. This project was finished in conjunction with the final leg of our kitchen renovation last year. When we moved into our house, this mudroom had the same vinyl flooring as the kitchen, plastic folding doors to the laundry closet, zero storage, and a whole lot of orange. (Scroll all the way down for the before pictures - I promise, its worth the scroll!) Since the space itself functioned fine and we had other priorities, I think all we did upon moving in was installing a washer and dryer. Eventually the wall was built out to separate the kitchen and mudroom to allow for storage. Then the space was painted, and new flooring, windows and baseboards were installed. When the time came to finish the cabinet portion of the kitchen renovation, I knew I wanted to add a storage area to the mudroom as well. Not only did this maximize storage space, it feels truly finished out.

The Design

I ultimately wanted to create a clean and classic space that felt like it fit the home (traditional craftsman) but updated, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The mudroom gets flooded with natural light during the day, so I wanted the space to feel happy and bright. Since we went with a grey-blue color for the kitchen cabinets, I couldn’t resist going with a true, warm white for the mudroom cabinets for a classic look. I used the same aged brass hardware from the kitchen renovation (from Rejuvenation) and I just love how it looks against the creamy white cabinet color. I carried over the shiplap detail from our kitchen to finish out the back of the bench area, as well as the entire interior of the washer and dryer closet.

I have so many favorite design details in this space, but my favorite might just be this brass dinner bell we installed by the back door. A little backstory - we had a different bell here originally that our dog, Josie, learned to ring whenever she wanted to go outside. Since it had to come off for paint, I upgraded her bell to this beautiful new version.

I loved designing this space, and I hope you love it as much as I do! I’m no professional, but I am proud of how this entire space came together. Keep reading for all of my sources and links!
