Our Bathroom Renovation Part 3: Design Element Must-Haves

If you read my design inspiration post (here) you’ll know I wanted a bathroom that felt clean, classic, and comfortable. I always feel like the inside of the house should match the outside, so I worked to create a look that would tie in well with our 1940’s craftsman bungalow but that still felt fresh and modern! The design has gone through so many iterations, but I love what we decided on!

I am over the moon about adding a classic, double-ended freestanding pedestal tub. This might be what I’m most excited for - I cannot wait to have a little bit of luxury a la a relaxing bath (we haven’t had a bathtub for the last 5 years!) A bone inlay mirror will hang above the tub-it’s too wide for our vanity area- but I love it to add a little bit of pattern to a plain wall. Surrounding the tub will be classic white wainscoting, and then we’ll have a classic telephone style tub filler centered behind it.

Another detail I’m so excited about is the sink faucet “hot and cold” knobs. I’ve always loved this classic detail and I’m so excited to have them in my own bathroom since I think they are the sweetest little detail.

In the water closet, we’re adding a beautiful soft blue wallpaper, which I also plan to use to line the back of our open shelving with. I wanted to add a little variation to the room so it wasn’t all white, and I think this is the perfect way to add in some color and pattern! We did wallpaper in our powder room a few years back, and by far it’s one of the things from our remodel that our guests comment on the most.

We’re going with marble penny tile all over the main floor and shower floor, and then an artisanal handmade ceramic white wall tile for the shower walls.

Lastly, while our faucets will all be in polished nickel, I couldn’t resist adding a touch of brass. We’re adding these brass sconces on either side of our vanity mirrors, along with brass towel bars, towel hooks, and other accessories!
