Simplified Spring Wishlist
After going through a lot personally these last few months, my entire perspective on life has gone through a massive shift. The way I think about clothing and style and fashion has shifted into a different mental space. I am approaching everything (really everything) with the mindset: How will this enrich my life? Does this fit in with my everyday life? Do I feel at ease and comfortable? Does this make me feel good?
I’m finally starting to feel a little more at peace after a massive change in my life, and there’s nothing and no one that I will let disrupt that hard-earned peace now. That includes clothing. I’m feeling more drawn to pieces that are simple, easy, and effortless. When I get dressed in the morning, I’m reaching for something loose and flowing. My go-to look this season has been wide leg jeans in denim and off white, neutral cashmere cardigans, and silk camis. I pair the look with sneakers and a tote bag. Less fancy, less dressy, less embellishment. Just less. Instead, I aim to feel balanced. Pared back, delicate simplicity is what I’m after.
At some point I’ll share the details of what’s been going on, but I’m not quite ready yet. But I will share that I’ve been reading a lot about grief and how people react to it. People who have been through what I have often, at some point, feel the need to simplify. When you’re tired and grieving and overwhelmed, there is very often a need to declutter. I’ve donated a lot of old things that I’d been holding on to. I’m selling a few others. And I’m making myself go through my home once a month to see if there’s anything that no longer serves a purpose.
All that being said, I’ve culled my wishlist down to a few key items that I feel will fill holes that I’ve found in my own wardrobe. Keep on scrolling for my spring season staples!
Cotton Summer Sundress
There’s nothing better in Texas than slipping on a lightweight cotton sundress and calling it a day. I love this one because I think it reads as both casual and night-out worthy. I love the fun print too.
Vest
The moment I saw this vest I could immediately see myself wearing it. It definitely feels like some that’s more appropriate for work, and since I primarily work from home, I’m not sure how much use I’d get out of it. However, I have been living in these pants this month that look just like the pants they styled it with - so it’s easy to visual the outfit coming together.
Special Occassion Dress
It’s been quite a while since I purchased a new special occasion dress. I tend to re-wear the same ones over and over, but I fell head over heels in love with this ivory sequin midi. It reminds me of the beach and feels summery and serene.
Striped Sweater
It’s a classic by any standards, so I was surprised to realize I didn’t have one. I love the uneven stripes and the mock neck on this one - it’s the perfect seaside accompaniment.
Straight Leg Jeans
I put all my skinny jeans in a plastic bin and said goodbye last year. Even if they do come back into style at some point (I sincerely hope not!) there is no beating the comfortability of straight or wide leg jeans. I’m a convert and there’s no going back.
Faux Leather Top
I love everything about this top - from the faux leather material, the front-cross halter to the neutral color. I’ll be wearing this out all summer long.
Khaki Dress
This gives me old Hollywood vibes - I love that they took a classic trench and turned it into a fun and sexy halter dress. The pockets, the belt, the open back - what’s not to love?
Utility Pants
Like I said, I’m never going back. My steadfast commitment to comfort returns with these cotton utility pants. Chic but trendy, I’d pair them with fun summer tops and sandals.
Silk Cami
A classic and a staple, I have been living in silk camis lately. I love the color of this one, and the additional detail of the chiffon trim. I’d wear this with a cardigan during the day and then swap it for some earrings or a necklace for a night out.
Crossbody Bag
Ah, the dream bag. A girl’s allowed to dream right? It’s like Celine secretly entered my brain while I was sleeping, gathered all my notes about style and what I love, and created this stunning crossbody bag. Functional but unequivocally stylish, I ‘d pair this with, quite literally, everything.
