Deep Dish Apple Pie

It is really cold here. And not in a fun way. There's not enough snow for it to really be "pretty", but just enough to you not want to leave the house. Too cold, for the time being, for an outfit post, which I usually like to do outdoors. My texas blood is thin compared to these Missourians', and don't get me started on learning to drive in the snow! Hopefully later this week I'll get an outfit post up, if I ever decide that I've thawed out enough to venture to the outdoors again. So in lieu of an outfit post, I'm going in with another pie recipe.

As I've mentioned before, my boyfriend loves pie just as much as I do, so for Valentine's Day I made him this deep-dish apple pie. I've been saying a lot lately that if my career in the creative field of blogging, web design, styling, and everything else doesn't work out, I'd throw up my hands and open a bakery or, after giving it some more thought, a pie shop. And even though there are no plans in the works to open one, and there probably (hopefully) won't be for a while, I've already started brainstorming names. Because lord knows it will take me that long to come up with one. I'm still brainstorming names for this blog!

Anyhow, this pie is a bit different from a classical apple pie. Still tastes like comfort food, still has that delicious filling, but with a bit of an update. I decided that because of all this winter weather, I really wanted the flavor to be warm and bright, so I took the focus from the apples and flavored them with the bright, fresh flavors of orange and lemon. The citrus paired with brown sugar, butter and cinnamon apples on the inside made for a bright twist on an old favorite!
