Boots + Fringe

One of my favorite things to do while putting together an outfit is to always use a couple good basics then incorporate one or two of-the-moment trends that I am really loving. For me, basics during winter means a pair of black skinny jeans and a chambray button-down. A good pair of black boots can go a long way too- I received this pair as a christmas present and I don't think they will ever come off my feet! I love the sleek seventies look of them- black suede with a stacked heel. I plan to wear them with…well, everything this season. (Something to look forward to in the cold weather!)

The trend I'm loving right now: fringe. Even when I look something more trendy, I look for it in a piece that I truly love. (A 2015 Fashion Resolution.) For example, I love the fringe trend right now, so instead of looking for a heavy leather jacket with fringe on the sleeves, I found it in this chunky oatmeal cardigan- something totally my style that will go with just about everything. The fringe doesn't overpower the rest of the sweater, which I love. And what I love the most about it is that this cardigan is that it's just as much a trendy item as it is a basic- something I find to be so elusive in the fashion world and therefore hold in high regard. (PS- it's on super sale at Anthropologie and rudely enough all the sizes and colors are still there. Link below.)

Another rule I like to follow while shopping: An old friend once said, "For every trendy piece you buy, buy a basic." So when I shop, I like to switch off. Buy something trendy, buy a staple. I love this rule so much- I think it's great advice when it comes to interior decorating as well!

How do you like to incorporate trends into your wardrobe, without getting too trendy? I'd love to hear in the comments below!
